Elements of Art - Texture

The seven elements of are are line, shape, form, space, value, color and texture.

Texture means surface quality. Texture creates variety, texture may be random or it may be made of a repeating pattern. Different materials have different surface qualities in that they reflect light differently.  Ice and glass are very shiny. Wool and denim cause reflected light to be diffused and soft.  The fashion industry introduces new patterns and prints every year. If you look around the room you will realize that almost every surface has a unique quality.

Hello Kitty and Johny-boy have very boring clothes.  Give their outfits outstanding textural qualities- Think pokadots, stripes and patterns of shapes. Come up with two alternatives for each.  That's a total of four illustrations.

Here are examples of different illustrated textures.  Copy them or invent your own.
